Prepare to explain your clinical reasoning in an oral examination. OSCE Platform provides Dental VIVA practice through clinical case discussions with an AI examiner, timed sessions and structured feedback.
A Dental VIVA is an oral examination in which an examiner asks questions about a clinical case or topic. Learners explain their interpretation, reasoning and proposed approach rather than choosing from a list of answers.
Dental VIVA preparation can include discussing assessment, differential diagnoses, investigations, management and patient safety. The exact content and marking requirements depend on your course and examination; always check your institution's guidance.
In an OSCE communication station, you usually interact with a patient and demonstrate practical communication skills. A VIVA focuses on a discussion with an examiner. You explain your interpretation, justify your reasoning and describe how you would respond clinically.
On OSCE Platform, Dental VIVA sessions use an AI examiner rather than an AI patient. VIVA feedback uses applicable SILO learning outcomes, rather than the generic OSCE communication rubric.
The Dental VIVA library includes Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery practice. Clinical case discussions help you practice a systematic approach, justify decisions and identify when additional assessment or referral may be needed.
Public information describes the format only. Clinical case material, images, examiner prompts and model answers are not published on this page.
Create an account without a payment card and choose Dental at your first login. Open the VIVA library, select an available case and choose Easy, Medium or Hard practice difficulty. Difficulty changes examiner guidance and probing, not the grading standard.
Individual VIVA practice starts with five minutes. During an active session, you can add five minutes at a time, up to thirty minutes total. Answer the AI examiner in your own words and practice explaining your reasoning clearly.
After completing a session, review feedback aligned with SILO learning outcomes and your saved practice history. Repeat an available case to work on areas that need improvement.
Oral Medicine VIVA Case 1 and Oral Surgery VIVA Case 49 are free for Dental learners. Both include unlimited repeat practice, AI examiner interaction, normal timing and extensions, feedback and session history.
These two VIVA cases are part of the four permanent free Dental cases. The other two cover pediatric patient communication and an emergency in the dental chair. No payment card is required. Access to the free cases does not expire and does not include a trial of the full library.
Additional Dental cases and VIVA mock exams require a paid plan. A subscription upgrades your existing account and unlocks your selected specialty, not both Dental and General Surgery. General Surgery has no free cases.
Paid Dental access includes a timed VIVA mock exam with three randomized cases and combined feedback after completion. Individual practice is useful for repetition and guided preparation; mocks provide a standardized timed examination format.
Individual practice difficulty and time extensions are separate from mock exam rules. Review the mock instructions in your account before starting.
Practice explaining a clear sequence: summarize the important findings, describe your reasoning, justify your proposed next steps and acknowledge uncertainty. Check your answers against your course learning outcomes and current clinical guidance.
Use feedback to identify specific improvements and repeat a case with those improvements in mind. AI practice is an educational supplement, not an official assessment, a guarantee of exam success or a substitute for clinical supervision.
